For undergraduate study
The University of Essex accepts school leaving qualifications from all European nations, including the International Baccalaureate, German Abitur and Polish Matura.
Each programme will have specific entry requirements but, on average, in the German Abitur we require an overall score of 11 – 13 and a 10 in place of IETLs, and in the Polish Matura we would require an overall score of 80 - 85%
For postgraduate study: A good honours degree in a related field.

Both campuses are within an hour’s train ride to London and have good transport links to the variety of local airports.

Entry requirements
At undergraduate level Middlesex accepts the German Abitur / Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife and the Polish Matura as well as the International Baccalaureat (IB). Fachgebundenes Abitur / Zeugnis der Fachgebundenen Hochschulreife may be considered for entry. Zwischenprüfung (Diplom / Magister) may be given advanced standing.
At postgraduate level a Bachelors degree from a recognised university equivalent to a UK second class honours degree (Diplom / Erstes Staatsexamen / Magister Artium).
English language requirements are IELTS 6.0 or TOEFL 80 (internet based) at undergraduate level and IELTS 6.5 -7.0 or TOEFL 90-100 at postgraduate level. Abitur with an achievement course English or the Polish Matura may also be accepted for proof of English language proficiency.

All of our courses require different levels of qualifications for entry and the details provided are for guidance only.
English language
All applicants are required to gain an internationally recognised English language qualification before entering an undergraduate or postgraduate programme, such as IELTS or TOEFL. As a guideline the minimum IELTS requirement is IELTS 4.5 for pre-masters programmes, and IELTS 6.0 for other academic programmes. Please note that some courses may have higher English language requirements.
For German students, the Abitur (at 7 points) is accepted in place of IELTS 6.0.
Undergraduate programmes: the following qualifications from Germany will be considered
Zeugnis der Allgemeinen Hochschulreife / Abitur with an overall grade of 2-3 ( at least 3 in English and mathematics)
